Definitely not a first edition- 7th I think.
Somehow I’ve ended up with an American print of this, which is a shame as there are two others in the series (Red Queen and Looking Glass) and if I buy the UK ones THE COVERS WON’T MATCH!! Ah, the traumas of Alice collecting.
Publisher’s blurb:
Alice has been in the mental hospital in Old Town for years. She doesn’t remember why. All she can remember is a tea party long ago. Long ears and blood. Until one night she escapes, free to uncover the truth about what happened to her all those years ago. When Alice escapes, something escapes with her. And the truth she so desperately seeks is so much stranger than any madman’s ranting. From the author of the Black Wings novels, the first in a dazzling and mind-bending new series, inspired by the twisted and wondrous works of Lewis Carroll.
and the back cover bumpf:
In a warren of crumbling buildings and desperate people called the Old City, there stands a hospital with cinderblock walls which echo the screams of the poor souls inside. In the hospital, there is a woman. Her hair, once blond, hangs in tangles down her back. She doesn’t remember why she’s in such a terrible place. Just a tea party long ago, and long ears, and blood…
Then, one night, a fire at the hospital gives the woman a chance to escape, tumbling out of the hole that imprisoned her, leaving her free to uncover the truth about what happened to her all those years ago. Only something else has escaped with her. Something dark. Something powerful. And to find the truth, she will have to track this beast to the very heart of the Old City, where the rabbit waits for his Alice.
If anyone in the US or Canada wants to help me in my dilemma by sending me the American version, feel free!
