Zenas Winsor McCay was an American cartoonist who was also a pioneer of animation. Little Nemo is his best known creation, but he also made Gertie the Dinosaur (1914).

The Nemo stories seem influenced by Alice both in the title and in that the child protagonist falls asleep at the start of each story, has amazing adventures and then awakes in the final panel.

Little Nemo in Slumberland ran in the New York Herald from October 15, 1905, until July 23, 1911, then it changed both name and publication, becoming In the Land of Wonderful Dreams in the New York American (1911 until 1914). There was then a break, but in 1924 Winsor McCay returned to the Herald and revived the strips under the original title until the end of 1926. This volume covers the Herald years from 1905-07.

Bought in a jumble sale, but available with dustjacket on Amazon.
