Royal Ballet Programme: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, with cast list for 15th March 2011.
The first new, full-length ballet score for The Royal Ballet for 20 years: music by Joby Talbot and choreography by Christopher Wheeldon.
My lovely boyf bought us tickets for my birthday- I hadn’t been to the Opera House for years, so it was a double treat. The ballet itself was patchy- I loved the Red Queen, the Cheshire Cat, the Caterpillar and the Flower dance, but really didn’t take to the tap-dancing Mad Hatter: and the caucus race was only impressive as being as pointless as the book’s descriptions suggest:
…they began running when they liked, and left off when they liked, so that it was not easy to know when the race was over. However, when they had been running half an hour or so, and were quite dry again, the Dodo suddenly called out The race is over! and they all crowded round it, panting, and asking, But who has won?
